Sedaris returns to his deliriously twisted domain: hilarious childhood dramas infused with melancholy; the gulf of misunderstanding that exists between people of different nations or members of the same family; and the poignant divide between one's best hopes and most common deeds.

Bitterly funny

Sedaris is at it again, carefully and painstalkingly removing every piece of social clothing from his family. This is a raw and often stinging book of essays but Sedaris' wit and genius emerge triumpanthly through the pages. Although there were not as many laugh-out-loud moments as "Me Talked Pretty Someday" and "Naked", each essay was surprisingly hilarious and, as always, amazingly thoughtful. In between the laughs and sober feelings, however, you will surely feel thankful: at least you do not have an author in your family. I highly recommend this book to any person reading Sedaris for the first time and to all his rock-solid fans, it is the work of a true artist.
